Guess What?

This Kirgiz man, with his huge sheep-wool hat, seemed on the verge of telling us something, with his piercing, yet friendly eyes. In the early days, Westerners weren't common in the far-flung oases of the Taklamakan Desert, and many were startled to see in real life the foreign devils the government had warned them about. In this painting, I left the white of the paper to enhance the feeling of light surrounding the mystery of what he was going to say.
